Rev. Powers received his Doctorates in Psychology and Theology from California Western University San Diego and Santa Ana campus in 1981 and 1986 respectively. He is also a graduate of Calvary Chapel School of Ministry Vista, California. Acting as the Chaplain for the Leukemia Society of America he was selected as Man of the Year in 1988 by the San Diego and Hawaii Chapters as a facilitator for the family support groups and home and hospital visitation corps. Rev. Powers is a lifetime member of the National Chaplains Association. Since 1993 Rev. Powers has been active in Marriage Ministries International, supporting and participating in the Married for Life program. In 1998 Dr. Powers was voted San Diego's most valued minister by the San Diego Wedding Professionals.

Each year Rev. Powers officiates approximately 300 weddings and provides additional Chaplaincy services for other clergy in the Southern California area baptisms, dedications, funeral and memorial services. As a non-denominational Chaplain he is called upon by many families and couples with differing and varied beliefs and traditions to facilitate their desires with a sensitive and spiritual focus.

In 1992 Rev. Powers had his book "The Romance of The Wedding Ceremony" published as a guide and resource for couples to compose and personalize their wedding ceremonies. His book is now used by seminaries as an adjunct to their ministerial training as well as clergy in many fields. His book as well as numerous wedding ceremonies are available for use and review by his clients who desire to participate in creating their own unique wedding ceremony. Since 1991, Rev. Powers has been a "Notary Public Minister" and appointed and approved to issue for the convenience of his couples the Confidential Marriage License should they choose this service.
